چکیده

The 2018 Hokkaido Eastern Iburi earthquake with the JMA seismic intensity of 7 occurred at a central south part Hokkaido, Japan 3:08 a.m. on September 6, 2018. Considering social importance this historical earthquake-induced geo-disaster, Japanese Geotechnical Society (JGS) organized “JGS Survey Team for Disasters in Induced by earthquake,” mainly comprised experts from industry and academia branch JGS. aim survey team was to investigate phenomena factors which contributed disaster recovery prevention/mitigation both short- mid- long-term perspectives, provide academic advice related government organizations. Based results site investigations conducted JGS (JGS, 2019), report provides summary geotechnical damage caused presenting detail strong motion various types geo-disasters due earthquake. Furthermore, highlights future research issues considering features attributed

Northridge earthquake damage caused by geologic focusing of seismic waves

Despite being located 21 kilometers from the epicenter of the 1994 Northridge earthquake (magnitude 6.7), the city of Santa Monica experienced anomalously concentrated damage with Mercalli intensity IX, an intensity as large as that experienced in the vicinity of the epicenter. Seismic records from aftershocks suggest that the damage resulted from the focusing of seismic waves by several underg...

Simulation of earthquake caused building damages for the development of fast reconnaissance techniques

Catastrophic events like strong earthquakes can cause big losses in life and economic values. An increase in the efficiency of reconnaissance techniques could help to reduce the losses in life as many victims die after and not during the event. A basic prerequisite to improve the rescue teams’ work is an improved planning of the measures. This can only be done on the basis of reliable and detai...

Report 10 Seismic CAT-Scan of an Ancient Earthquake

Two-dimensional and three-dimensional seismic surveys were conducted across the Oquirrh fault, Utah with the purpose of imaging the fault structure to a depth of about 15 m. Results show that the 3-D tomogram clearly delineates the fault zone and a colluvial wedge, both of which correlate extremely well with the geologic cross-section interpreted from an adjacent trench. The thickness of the co...

Izmit Earthquake on Seismic Hazards in Istanbul

We calculate the probability of strong shaking in Istanbul—an urban center of 10 million people—from the description of earthquakes on the North Anatolian fault system in the Marmara Sea during the past 500 years, and test the resulting catalog against the frequency of damage in Istanbul during the preceding millennium. Departing from current practice, we include the time-dependent effect of st...

Scaling of seismic memory with earthquake size.

It has been observed that discrete earthquake events possess memory, i.e., that events occurring in a particular location are dependent on the history of that location. We conduct an analysis to see whether continuous real-time data also display a similar memory and, if so, whether such autocorrelations depend on the size of earthquakes within close spatiotemporal proximity. We analyze the seis...
